Who We Are
Get to Know Us
The Hayat Initiative is a grassroots organization based in the northern part of Kenya, dedicated to ending early marriages and eradicating female genital mutilation (FGM) through education, advocacy, and empowerment. We believe in a world where every girl has the opportunity to thrive, free from harmful cultural practices and with access to education and equal opportunities.
Yassin, a passionate advocate for women’s rights and a dedicated member of the community, founded the Hayat Initiative after witnessing the devastating impacts of early marriages and FGM on young girls. Driven by a deep commitment to social justice and equality, Yassin gathered a group of like-minded individuals to address these pressing issues head-on.
The journey began with small, informal meetings where Yassin and the founding members discussed the challenges faced by girls in their community and brainstormed ways to create meaningful change. These discussions laid the groundwork for what would become the Hayat Initiative, an organization rooted in the belief that every girl deserves the opportunity to thrive.
